Support the Creation of a Dedicated Slackline Space at Louisville's Waterfront Park
La causa
My name is Sarah Osorio, and I am an organizer with Slackline Kentucky, a local community group that has been hosting weekly slackline meetups at Waterfront Park since 2021. We are asking for your support in creating a dedicated Slackline Park within Waterfront Park: a permanent, safe, and inclusive space for people of all ages to move, play, and connect.
Waterfront Park already welcomes over 2.4 million visitors each year, and 91% of them say the park gives them a sense of belonging. It is clear that Waterfront Park is not just a green space; it is where Louisville comes together. The recently opened PlayPort showed what is possible when recreation is designed for everyone. Now, the Slackline Park represents the next step in expanding those opportunities to teens, adults, and families alike.
A dedicated Slackline Park would:
✅ Provide a safe and structured area for slackliners and beginners
✅ Promote health, wellness, and balance through outdoor activity
✅ Offer unique recreation that sets Waterfront Park apart
✅ Create opportunities for youth programs and community workshops led by Slackline Kentucky
✅ Foster collaboration with other movement groups like Louisville Flow Jam, building creativity and connection through shared spaces
Slacklining is a growing sport worldwide. It is simple, low-impact, and community-driven. Participants set up their own gear for each session and take it down afterward, leaving the park exactly as they found it. The sport requires minimal infrastructure and maintenance while offering a high social and health impact.
Proposed Features of the Slackline Park
🌳 Concrete anchor points for short, medium, and long lines
🌿 Tree-friendly anchor zones and soft surfacing for safety
📖 Educational signage with QR codes linking to local resources
🪑 Shaded seating for rest and spectators
🩵 Accessible pathways and adaptive slackline options
I was personally inspired to pursue this project for our community after visiting SouLine Park in Medellín, Colombia in 2024, Latin America’s first permanent slackline park. Seeing how that space transformed a local park into a vibrant hub for movement, creativity, and connection showed me what is possible when cities collaborate with their communities to invest in accessible and inclusive recreation. This project reflects that same spirit and a shared vision of what we can create together here in Louisville.
At its heart, this project is about more than balance. It is about people. Every week, we watch strangers become friends, families cheer each other on, and new visitors discover confidence, laughter, and mindfulness on the line.
With your support, we can take the next step in making this vision a reality. Please sign and share this petition to show Waterfront Park that our community is ready and excited to create a lasting space where balance, creativity, and connection can thrive.
This petition will be included as part of Slackline Kentucky’s formal proposal to Waterfront Park leadership. Your signature helps demonstrate community support and the shared desire to make this project a reality.
Y’all means all. 💛
