New federal lawsuit pins blame for inmate’s death on Missouri prison officials

Brandon Pace

In the echoes of sorrow and loss, we stand united in seeking justice for Brandon Pace, a young man whose life was tragically cut short while in custody of the Missouri Department of Corrections (MODOC). Brandon's mother, Tammy Reed, endures the unimaginable heartbreak of losing her son to the negligence of a system that failed to provide him the care and oversight necessary to prevent this tragedy.

Brandon Pace died in MODOC custody with no accountability, a stark reminder of the cracks in our justice system. His death is not just a personal loss to his family but a glaring symbol of systemic issues that need urgent redress. As a chaplain committed to supporting families dealing with the incarceration of loved ones, I have joined forces with Tammy Reed to channel our grief and demand for justice into actionable change.

The Brandon Pace Act represents a bipartisan commitment to reform by uniting various legislative ideas into a single, comprehensive framework aimed at ensuring due process, integrity, and faithful protection of all individuals in custody. This bill is more than a memory of Brandon; it is a call to action to prevent future tragedies through enforced accountability and independent oversight within the Missouri correctional facilities.

The Brandon Pace Act seeks to establish mandatory medical care protocols and independent accountability oversight of all correctional staff to ensure no other family endures such a traumatic loss due to institutional negligence. We urge Missouri lawmakers to reevaluate the current practices and enact this model bill to foster justice and safeguard the dignity of every incarcerated person.

Your support and signature can make the difference. You have the power to compel change and ensure that justice is upheld in honor of Brandon and in protection for all in the system. Stand with Tammy Reed and countless other families by signing this petition to make The Brandon Pace Act a reality. Together, let us pave the path toward a more just and compassionate justice system in Missouri.
