The Issue

The faculty of Silliman University have long dedicated themselves to shaping generations of students with passion and excellence. However, despite their unwavering commitment, they continue to face unfair labor conditions, including stagnant wages, insufficient benefits, and a lack of proper recognition for their hard work.

The Silliman University Faculty Association (SUFA) has been fighting for fair compensation and just working conditions, but negotiations with the administration have reached an impasse. Instead of prioritizing the welfare of its educators, the administration has refused to meet reasonable demands for salary increases, allowances, and retirement benefits.

Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assumed jurisdiction over the dispute, effectively preventing faculty members from exercising their right to strike. While the case is now in DOLE’s hands, we must continue to amplify our voices and push for a just resolution.
