I am a resident of the beautiful community Lake Hughes, CA, USA, and I am deeply concerned about the increasing frequency of theft in our neighborhood. It seems that our mailboxes, often located away from our homes, have become easy targets for robbers. I believe, as do many in our community, that moving these mailboxes to the front of our homes can significantly reduce these incidents of theft.

In the United States, more than 15.9 million citizens have fallen victim to identity thefts related to unauthorized mail access, according to a 2017 report by The Harris Poll. By simply moving our mailboxes to a more secure location, we can potentially prevent hundreds of these cases each year in Lake Hughes alone.

However, to enact this change, we require the support and cooperation of the postal office. We are not petitioning for an unreasonable request but a necessary alteration in the name of community safety. We urge the postal authority to understand our situation and permit the movement of mailboxes to the front of our homes.
