109 Signatures -- Records Review Update and SVVSD Contact Information
Thank you to the more than 109 parents, family members, educators, and community members who have signed this petition since it launched last week. Your efforts are paying off but we can still use more signatures.
We continue to support SVVSD's goal of distraction-free schools. Our request remains narrow: allow a properly restricted smartwatch to remain worn but not used during the PK-8 school day when parent-managed school restrictions are active.
We are also continuing to review records obtained from St. Vrain Valley Schools concerning how the August 12 policy change was developed.
On August 12, the District publicly stated that the changes came directly from feedback from the community and school administrative teams. As part of our records request, we specifically sought the records documenting parent and community engagement concerning smartwatch treatment.
The District provided additional records on September 17 and has now stated that, after its search, it has produced the responsive records it located and considers its response complete.
Our review is still underway. So far, we have identified administrator feedback and general references to community input. We have not yet identified a parent survey, public listening session, or other District-initiated parent/community process specifically addressing whether PK-8 smartwatches should be worn, restricted, placed in school mode, removed, or stored before the August 12 decision.
That is a preliminary observation, not a final conclusion. We will continue reviewing the production carefully and will share what the records actually show.
