The Issue

No to War, Yes to Peace in the Horn of Africa

An Urgent Petition to the United Nations Security Council

To the Members of the United Nations Security Council:

We, the undersigned, urgently call on the United Nations Security Council to act now to prevent a wider regional war in the Horn of Africa.

The peoples of Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan have already suffered beyond measure from war, repression, displacement, famine, and foreign interference. Since the outbreak of Sudan's civil war in April 2023, over 10 million people have been displaced. The legacy of the Tigray war continues to shape instability in Ethiopia, while tensions along the Eritrea-Ethiopia border and Eritrea's involvement in regional conflicts raise the risk of renewed cross-border war. Civilians have paid the highest price: children killed, families torn apart, cities destroyed, and entire generations robbed of peace, dignity, and a future.

We refuse to allow another catastrophic war to consume the Horn of Africa.

The growing instability in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan is being fueled not only by internal armed actors and governments but also by external powers, financiers, and arms suppliers who continue to sponsor war for political, military, and strategic gain, including control over Red Sea access, regional resources, and geopolitical influence. The Horn of Africa must not be turned into a battlefield for proxy wars and foreign interests.

The peoples of Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan are not pawns. Our region is not a chessboard. Our future must not be sacrificed to war.

Our Core Demand

We demand that the United Nations Security Council impose an immediate arms embargo and enforce targeted sanctions against all governments, armed groups, financiers, and external actors fueling war in the Horn of Africa.

We Further Call on the United Nations Security Council To:

Convene an emergency session on the escalating crisis in the Horn of Africa.
Take immediate action to prevent a regional war involving Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
Impose a comprehensive arms embargo on all parties contributing to the conflict in the region.
Enforce targeted sanctions against all governments, armed groups, financiers, and foreign actors supporting violence and destabilization.
Strengthen monitoring and accountability mechanisms for arms transfers, financial networks, and military support flowing into the region.
Protect civilians and ensure immediate, unhindered humanitarian access for all affected populations.
Support diplomatic and political solutions based on peace, justice, accountability, sovereignty, and the protection of human life.
Why This Matters War in the Horn of Africa does not remain limited to battlefields. It destroys entire societies, leaving behind mass graves, trauma, famine, refugee crises, economic collapse, and long-term instability. The region's position along the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb strait also means instability here threatens global shipping and security, giving the Security Council both a humanitarian and strategic reason to act now.

The world must not wait until more lives are lost.

Our Message is Simple and Urgent:

No to War. Yes to Peace.

Hands Off the Horn of Africa.

We call on all people of conscience to sign this petition and urge the United Nations Security Council to act immediately.
