The Issue

By signing this petition, you are calling on the Clara City City Council and the management of Clara City Senior Living to rescind Chasity’s termination, make her whole, and reinstate her to her previous position, with a desired response from the City Council by April 21st, 2026.

Chasity Blokzyl has worked at the Clara City Assisted Living for 6 ½ years. In that time, the residents there have become family to her. Chasity’s absence has left a hole for her coworkers, residents, and family members of the residents that have grown to trust in her to provide empathetic, respectful care. With the impact she has made in the facility, and how close she’s become to all that have known her, she is deeply missed.

Beyond her dedication in the workplace, Chasity has served as a Workplace Leader, and was recently elected to the Executive Board of SEIU by her coworkers. Her termination is a direct attack on the membership of the Care Center, Assisted Living, and Prairie Park Place. We need to make sure that we stand together and show Clara City that we will not stand for unjust punishment that leaves long term care staff without direct worksite advocacy, support, and expertise.

On the morning of 2/9/2026, Chasity spoke with management at the Assisted Living about her schedule, and felt hopeful for the future. The afternoon of 2/9/2026, she was terminated over the phone because of scheduling issues that were previously discussed and thought to have been resolved that morning. Chasity has been unfairly targeted due to standing up and representing her coworkers, and her loss at the facility has impacted not only staff, but those who have relied on her for care. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that those around her were supported, and is now looking for that same support so that she can continue to provide care and compassion to our community members.
