🔎 Over 81,000 children in England are currently recorded as missing from education — and the true number may be much higher.

These children aren’t absent because their parents chose it.
They’re lost because the system has no idea where they are.

Under current law:

There is no national register of children in education.
Families are not required to prove education is even happening.
Children can disappear from school rolls with no mandatory follow-up.
No timelines exist for welfare intervention.
Safeguarding budgets lack transparency and oversight.
This isn’t oversight. It’s abandonment.

✅ Universal registration of all children in education
✅ Mandatory contact and welfare checks when a child goes missing
✅ Twice-yearly evidence of progress for Elective Home Education (EHE)
✅ Cross-agency tracking for vulnerable children
✅ Transparent, audited safeguarding budgets
✅ Escalation when a child vanishes without trace
✅ (NEW) Encouragement of community engagement to support child development

 
She still hasn’t returned to school.
And nobody from the council ever checked in.

No child should vanish into silence.
No council should be allowed to lose track of a child they’re meant to protect.

We call on Parliament to adopt Olivia’s Law.
We call on local councils to implement its principles immediately.
