Support needed !! Advocate for the Release of Rodney Keith Holland VDOC

The Issue

Rodney Keith Holland, currently incarcerated at Lawrenceville Correctional Facility sentenced to 49 years after the "Truth-in-Sentencing" law was passed in Virginia in 1994, which effectively abolished parole for felonies committed after January 1, 1995. This law mandated that individuals convicted of certain offenses serve a minimum percentage (85%) of their sentences before becoming eligible for release. Rodney Holland has spent 26 and a half years transforming his life. He evolved from a young individual into a responsible and mature adult. He has accepted responsibility for his actions as he knows the pain that was caused by his actions towards the victim and the victim's family and society at large. His unwavering commitment to self-improvement is evident in his active participation and successful completion of all available rehabilitation programs. This steadfast dedication should not go unnoticed. Over the past twenty-six and a half years, Rodney has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to personal growth and rehabilitation. He has not only completed all rehabilitation programs available but has also acquired noteworthy accolades, including a commercial cooking certification, three personal training degrees, and advanced personal training qualifications. This impressive educational journey underscores Rodney's determination to equip himself with valuable skills for reintegration into society.

The criminal justice system in the United States is unbalanced and unfair to black women and men in this country. Statistics show that African Americans are incarcerated at more than five times the rate of whites (NAACP). Rodney's case is an example of this systemic imbalance.

Parole should be reconsidered for inmates who have been rehabilitated like Rodney. Rehabilitation programs aim to reduce recidivism rates among offenders, yet many who complete these programs remain incarcerated despite their progress (National Institute of Justice).

We believe that individuals like Rodney deserve a second chance after demonstrating genuine transformation and commitment to change. It's time we advocate for fairness in our justice system by supporting those who have shown they are ready to reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
