Support naming El Paso VA clinic after SGT Isela Rubalcaba
The Issue
On May 8, 2004, U.S. Army Sergeant (SGT) Isela Rubalcaba sacrificed her life while serving our country during a mortar attack in Iraq—just three days before her 26th birthday. Born and raised in Canutillo, Texas, she was not only an exceptional student and athlete at Canutillo High School but also a beloved daughter and community member. In 2000, driven by her commitment to serve, SGT Rubalcaba joined the U.S. Army as a supply technician.
SGT Rubalcaba's legacy as the first woman from El Paso County to have died in combat resonates deeply within our community. To honor her bravery and dedication, we propose naming the new El Paso VA clinic in her memory. This act will solidify her legacy and serve as a daily reminder of her heroism and service to our country.
Our Congressional Representatives have the power to make this name dedication a reality. By naming the VA clinic after SGT Rubalcaba, we not only honor her sacrifice but also pay tribute to all servicemembers who have given their lives for our nation.
It is with a collective voice that we reach out to our Congressional Representatives, urging them to acknowledge and commemorate SGT Rubalcaba's ultimate sacrifice by bestowing her name upon the new VA clinic. Let this be a beacon of remembrance and gratitude within our community, as we strive to honor the memory of those who have served so selflessly.
Key points on the naming procedure:
*The Congressional Representatives named are not the ultimate decision makers; all members of the state's congressional delegation must provide written support.
*State-level chapters of major veteran's service organizations must also provide written support.
*After the requirements mentioned in the letter are met a Member of Congress may introduce a bill which must pass both the House and Senate.
Please join us in calling for this recognition of courage and sacrifice. Sign this petition to show your support for naming the El Paso VA clinic in honor of SGT Isela Rubalcaba. Together, let us ensure this tribute is realized.
