Support Nambour Community Kindergarten relocation after floods
The issue
PLEASE NOTE: We are not asking for Donations through this platform, so please don't feel pressured to contribute financially to the Change.org website, as this does not go to the Nambour Kindy.
On 9th March 2025, the effects of Tropical Cyclone Alfred were experienced in Nambour with 750mm of storm water inundating the Nambour Community Kindergarten building and gardens. The contents of the building and its internal walls were damaged by water. As a result, Nambour Kindy was required to close for 5 weeks while a temporary location was secured at The Range Community Kindy in Mapleton on the alternative days to their service. This enabled the resumption of business at reduced hours to continue operations in 2025.
For the past 6 months the Kindy Committee has been working with various local, state and federal government groups to work on a future solution for the Kindy. Unfortunately, due to the increased flood risk to the James Street location, it is not financially viable to rebuild there. We have support from the Nambour State College to co-locate on their premise, either in a temporary or permanent basis.
We are now appealing to the Minister of Education and the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek MP to support the co-location of our beloved kindergarten at the Nambour State College premises. This strategic move will not only ensure the safety and well-being of our children but also foster a cohesive learning environment within our community, and keep a 75 year old well loved institution alive in Nambour.
The school already has a vacant building available to be used, with only minor modifications required. Moreover, co-locating to Nambour State College will foster a sense of unity and collaboration between the kindergarten and the school community. It will also offer our children an opportunity to transition smoothly into their primary education, benefiting from familiar surroundings and creating continuity in their educational journey.
We're calling on the Queensland Minister of Education to take immediate action and endorse this relocation plan. This move represents not just a temporary fix but a sustainable solution for the future of early childhood education in the Nambour community.
Your support is crucial. By signing this petition, you are helping to secure a safe and stable educational environment for the youngest members of our Nambour community. Please join us in this vital effort to ensure that our children continue to learn and grow in a secure and nurturing setting. Sign today to make a difference for our community's future.
