The indigent are being denied equal access to an accurate record because the Minnesota Judicial Branch has made the irresponsible and costly decision to outsource the production of their transcripts to a corporation with workers who are not as uniquely qualified as the Official Court Reporter to produce them.

Producing a transcript of all requested proceedings was once the job of the Official Court Reporter, the one most suited and trained for this work. But now a subset of these transcripts ordered – those requested by people who are unable to afford to pay for the transcript with their own funds – are being sent to an out-of-state transcription company.
