A bipartisan group of Michigan state senators has introduced a five-bill package that would give us real protections against robocalls, spam texts, spoofed numbers, and scam operations that prey especially on seniors and vulnerable residents. These bills don’t just set limits—they give the Michigan Attorney General real power to enforce them, including fines up to $100,000 per violation.

Under this legislation, spam calls and texts would only be allowed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and calls to numbers on the federal Do Not Call list would be illegal. Scammers would be banned from disguising their identity, especially when pretending to be hospitals, schools, or emergency services. And most importantly, victims could sue to hold violators accountable.
