Support Metro Grocery Workers - on strike while grocery stores make record profits
The Issue
Nearly two weeks after Metro workers began striking at 27 locations across the GTA, the grocery giant said profits skyrocketed in its last quarter.
By July 1, net earnings increased by 26 per cent over the previous year — rising from $275 million to $346.7 million.
this while 70% of Metro's jobs are part-time and workers are paid an average of $16-$17/hour
we have all been affected by the rising cost of food
grocery store workers can't afford to shop at the stores they work in and can't afford to live in the cities in which they work
these workers are the same people who kept grocery stores open during Covid so that we could get food - let's stand by them as they stood by us
tell Metro Ontario Inc. that they need to pay their workers a living wage in acknowledgement that they are indeed essential workers: Speakup@metro.ca or osez-parler@metro.ca
