SUPPORT MEDIA ARTS IN CA & US SCHOOLS! SB 1341 MAKES IT OFFICIAL!
The Issue
LESS THAN 4% OF CALIFORNIA STUDENTS LEARN TO TAKE AN ARTISTIC PHOTO, CREATE A MOVIE OR ANIMATION, DESIGN A WEBPAGE, PROGRAM A VIDEO GAME, REPORT A NEWS STORY, OR DESIGN A 3D ENVIRONMENT!
CA BILL SB 1341 MAKES MEDIA ARTS AN OFFICIAL ARTS SUBJECT and would set national precedent!
MEDIA ARTS EMPOWERS STUDENTS THROUGH UNLIMITED CREATIVITY & DIGITAL AND MEDIA LITERACIES! (e.g. digital arts, multimedia, video, music, game design, web design, 3D design, VR, AI!) STUDENTS OF MEDIA ARTS CAN PRODUCE OR DESIGN ANYTHING IMAGINABLE!
Media arts is how we communicate, design, and interact in our digital society! These are now our core literacies!
Yet, "Media Arts" is not an official subject area in any states (ed code, credential, courses, training). These new literacies are essential for all students to:
- successfully and healthily function in a digital society
- become skilled producers and critical consumers of media
Media arts provides these benefits for students:
- empowers their creative expression through all new media forms
- forms an interdisciplinary hub for connecting all subject areas in engaging media productions - e.g. science videos, math-based 3D design, engineered virtual reality, STEAM projects
- develops comprehensive 21st century workforce skills
- supports new, more effective learning and teaching methods (e.g. student-centered, project-based, active learning, arts integration, tech-based, alternative assessments)
Finally, establishing media arts will support teachers to:
- get specific training and professional development
- acquire the necessary resources to start and maintain programs
- form a professional organization
- research and develop media arts education as it evolves
Sign this petition now to support the establishment of Media Arts as an official subject area in California and all states, so that all students are prepared for the current world and the future!
