Support Marupo Eats’ Reopening: Help Secure a Grant for a Community Food Truck!

The Issue

Hi friends, family, and the Marupo community!

As we’ve shared on social media and in our latest newsletter, Marupo will take an indefinite hiatus starting in March 2025. This difficult decision comes from personal family circumstances and the reality of burnout within our small team. It has been an honor to be part of Ann Arbor’s vibrant AAPI food scene, sharing our unique flavors through Egg Tarts, Bo Lo Bao, Spring Rolls, Siu Mai Dumplings, and more. While we step away for now, we know our absence leaves a gap for our customers and the wider community of small food businesses. But as unfortunate as this situation is, we hope to return stronger than ever.

Our goal is to reopen and expand our impact by the Summer of 2026. We are applying for the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development’s (MDARD) Underserved, Value-Added, and Regional Food Systems Grant to establish a community food truck, a mobile food hub serving Marupo and other AAPI food businesses in Ann Arbor. This food truck will provide Marupo with a stable location while creating an accessible space for diverse food entrepreneurs in Southeast Michigan to share their cuisines and build a stronger, more inclusive food ecosystem. Whether being borrowed for a pop-up or simply acting as a stove to heat food at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, we hope the Marupo Food Truck will help provide a space of consistent support and connection.

We know this is a big goal, but that has never stopped us from trying before. And just like everything else since 2022, we cannot do this without your support!

By signing this petition, you are showing your support for Marupo's return and the future of Ann Arbor’s cultural food landscape. Your action will help demonstrate to grant decision-makers that there is a real need for this project in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Southeast Michigan.

Whether you’ve visited our pop-ups, shared our story with friends and family, or simply cheered us on from afar, it truly means the world, and we are so grateful for your support. Thank you for being part of the Marupo community so far, and we look forward to what comes next.
