The Issue

We urgently need your support! Every dog in the photo has tragically lost their life. We're crying out for CHANGE! If you're following our Rescue Me Tampa Shelter Dogs Facebook page, you've witnessed the heartbreaking reality of thousands of dogs euthanized due to space or medical issues stemming from irresponsible ownership. A visit to Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center reveals over 500 cages packed with dogs and cats, many arriving in appalling conditions – emaciated, heartworm positive, overbred, pregnant, or abandoned. Despite the overwhelming need, lawmakers have yet to act decisively to tackle the overpopulation crisis. Dogs are being bred faster than we can rescue them, leading to record-high euthanasia rates. Rescues are stretched thin, lacking resources and foster homes to keep up with the demand. We plead for change to end this vicious cycle of abuse. Hillsborough County, we must be the catalyst for change. We implore our Board of County Commissioners to enact mandatory spay/neuter and microchip requirements for dogs and cats six months and older (with exemptions for medical reasons and registered AKC breeders). Please join us in being the voice for these animals and holding irresponsible breeders accountable. It's time to make humans accountable for the overpopulation crisis, as these innocent animals pay the price every day.
