Looking for ways to show Madison cops some love during National Police Week (May 14 to 20)? Some suggestions . . . 1. Attend our Madison PD-west district appreciation / open house event on Tuesday, 5/16. Deets: https://www.change.org/p/support-madison-police-department-stop-the-public-attacks/u/20220038 2. Attend the ceremony at the Capitol hosted by Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, Inc. This event honors fallen officers across Wisconsin. Deets: https://www.facebook.com/events/404237486624209/ If you can't make it to the event, you can always visit the permanently-based, stone memorial in front of the Capitol. It's a sobering experience - I'll leave it at that. 3. Write a letter to the Capital Times or Wisconsin State Journal telling them how much you appreciate Madison PD. I'm not offering any talking points this time, because your letter should come from the heart. Where to send your letters. Both link to online forms. Capital Times: https://host.madison.com/forms/online_services/letter-ct/ Wisconsin State Journal: https://host.madison.com/forms/online_services/letter/ I hope to see our newspapers flooded with appreciation letters next week. Extra Credit: Watch Fox 11 Green Bay's coverage of the proposed bill to add a fee to the purchase of the Law Enforcement Memorial plate - proceeds that would assist families of fallen Wisconsin officers. We're so close to making this happen! http://fox11online.com/news/fox-11-investigates/fox-11-investigates-wisconsin-law-enforcement-memorial-license-plate-plan All the best. --Paula Fitzsimmons
