There are no words to express the grief, shock, and outrage many of us feel over yesterday's tragedy in Wausau. I can't even begin to imagine the anguish the families of the officer & civilians are feeling right now. Despite this tragedy, there is a sliver of hope. Steve has been working with Representative David Steffen on a license plate project that would help fund a memorial for families of fallen Wisconsin law enforcement officers. Currently, when someone purchases a law enforcement plate (we have one proudly displayed on our own car), nothing is donated to the memorial fund. Steve wanted to change that. He believes that money from the purchase of these plates should benefit the families of fallen heroes. So he worked with Rep. Steffen (who is also working on Blue Lives Matter legislation) to craft a special bill. This morning Steve received a much-welcome call from Rep. Steffen with great news - the bill is likely going to pass! What this means is that every time someone purchases a Wisconsin law enforcement license plate, $25 will go into a memorial fund. Technically speaking, half will go to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, and half will go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund with the stipulation that the money benefit Wisconsin law enforcement. Here's what you can do: 1. Rep. Steffen has asked Steve to testify at the Capital about this issue on April 6. We would love for all of you who support law enforcement to attend the hearing with us. I'll share more details on logistics once I have them. 2. Call and / or email Rep. Steffen's office and thank him for working on this bill, as well as for his ongoing support of law enforcement. When the bill passes, consider purchasing a license plate. You can certainly buy one now, but after the bill is passed, $25 of each sale will benefit the memorial fund.
