There are no words to adequately express what occurred last night in Dallas. Like you, I'm outraged and extremely saddened . . .and frankly, in a state of shock. While we can't undo last night's tragedy or alleviate the intense pain, we can express collective support for our own Chief Koval & Madison police officers. Because the "not feeling much support these days" sentiment is not restricted to Dallas - it's felt nationwide, including here within our own force. Two are several ways to show your support: 1. Pick up a "We Support Madison PD" yard sign. Our stock is depleted but they're being assembled today and should be ready by tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, July 9. Costs to print these signs have thus far come out-of-pocket, so we do ask for a $2 (two dollar) donation to help defray costs. You can pick up a sign at any of the following locations: • On the west side at 5213 Loruth Terrace; • On east side at 5345 Queensbridge Road; • On northeast side at 1717 Elka Lane. 2. Please continue to share this petition with anyone who cares about our police department. That we have nearly 1,700 signatures is impressive, but we need even more. 3. When you see police officers in public, don't feel shy about expressing your thanks. If they're standing in line behind you, buy them a cup of coffee or pay for their lunch or dinner. It's not as if you're signing a petition that nobody will see. It *will* be delivered to the listed decision-makers, and your voices *will* be heard (details on that will be posted in the future).
