Kenan’s Law: Hold Social Media Platforms Accountable for How They Handle Online harassment reports

I am creating Kenan’s Law in memory of Kenan Urker and to advocate for meaningful change in how social-media platforms respond to repeated online harassment.

Before Ken’s passing, he experienced extensive online scrutiny across platforms including Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Ken and I repeatedly reported content we believed crossed the line from criticism into targeted harassment, yet many reports came back “no violation.”

One of our greatest concerns was r/GRBsnark on Reddit, where a significant amount of the content targeting Ken, me, and our family was concentrated. We believe Reddit should conduct a comprehensive human review of this community and its history—not simply evaluate individual posts in isolation—and take appropriate enforcement action, including removal if its review establishes sustained violations of Reddit’s harassment policies.

But this problem is bigger than one subreddit or one platform.

Harassment is not always visible in a single post. It can be a pattern. When hundreds of videos, comments, posts, and discussions repeatedly target the same person, platforms need systems capable of seeing the whole picture.

Ken was a public figure, and so am I.

We understand that public figures are subject to criticism, commentary, and opinions—including harsh ones. Kenan’s Law is not about censorship or silencing criticism, it’s about taking action when criticism crosses into cyber bullying/harassment.

public figures are still human.

Fame does not erase humanity.

Ken recently died following a suspected overdose. At this time, we do not know whether the overdose was intentional, and I will not speculate about circumstances that have not been determined.

What I am asking is that we learn from what happened before it.

I often found Ken reading negative comments, watching videos that featured commentary that was hateful, slander and demeaning. This had a profound negative impact on his mental health.

Kenan’s Law would advocate for:

Pattern-based harassment reporting instead of reviewing every incident in isolation.
Human review and meaningful appeals for serious or repeated cases.
Preservation of reports and relevant evidence.
Greater transparency and accountability from major social-media platforms.
Equal consideration of legitimate safety reports involving public figures.

Our first call is to Reddit: comprehensively review r/GRBsnark, its history, and the reports involving Ken and our family, and take appropriate action based on the complete pattern of conduct.

From there, I want this conversation to extend to every major social-media platform.

Please sign and share in support of Kenan’s Law.
