Illinois families are facing a massive 27% insurance rate hike from State Farm — and they shouldn’t have to pay for storms that didn’t happen here.

State Farm says it needs the increase because of “severe weather,” but the Illinois Department of Insurance disagrees. Even Governor JB Pritzker has called out the company for shifting out-of-state costs — like hurricane losses in Florida — onto everyday homeowners in Illinois.

This isn’t just a price adjustment. It’s a powerful national corporation forcing working families to pay more to protect beach houses hundreds of miles away. And while State Farm brings in record revenue, people across Illinois are being told to accept higher deductibles and hundreds of dollars in extra costs per year — with no clear justification.

If this goes through, it sets a dangerous precedent: big insurers can inflate rates anywhere to cover losses everywhere. That’s not how fair markets work.
