Support Homeless Heroes and the Housing Solution on Willow Creek land. Let us Build!
The Issue
Amarillo, Potter County, and River Road community, we have an opportunity in front of us with the purposed 10-acre land donation from Potter County to the organization Homeless Heroes of Amarillo. Every day there are anywhere from 20-100 homeless Veterans in our area. Men and Women that signed on the dotted line for their Country, and for one reason or another, have found themselves without Shelter, Food, Money, or support to get out of their situation. Our mission and vision are to build the solution for the housing shortage to take our brave men and women off the streets and get them an address that begins the foundational process of moving forward to becoming active and productive members of our great area once again. We recognize that there is an abundance of resources for these men and women and yet, there is a GAP that needs to be filled. With people and local entities actively working to get our area Veterans housed thru the vetting process, it is very apparent that the Housing is not available at scale with the number of people in need. Insert our solution. A "Tiny Home" housing development with 10 beautiful homes, a community garden, a dog park, a picnic area, and a Community Center that allows the residents to have a place to gather and for Veterans resources to come to them for services and meetings. This community is an option for people who want to change their lives and take full advantage of the benefits that are owed to them as Veterans. It all starts with an address.
There are some people who oppose the location and are asking Potter county to rescind this donation of land that we are so excited and grateful for to begin our Housing Development. By signing this petition, you are agreeing that Potter County commissioners should vote YES to move forward with the land donation, and that you stand with us as a community to be the solution to fill the gap of housing for our local Veterans who are currently without shelter. On February 27th, we go back to the Potter County Commissioners court for this project to be voted on again. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Please join me in speaking up for those that need us to be louder than the few against this project and location.
