Support High-Speed Fiber Installation in South Mullenix Ridge
Support High-Speed Fiber Installation in South Mullenix Ridge
The Issue
Living in Port Orchard, WA and working from home has made me realize the critical need for a reliable internet connection. Like many of you, I have faced constant disruptions with the current internet services. CenturyLink DSL has proven inadequate in today’s digital age, and Astound Cable lacks competition, leading to subpar service. During the power outage this last winter, my backup power kept my home running, yet I was left without internet because Astound failed to provide backup power to their infrastructure. Even on normal days, I encounter interruptions that last several minutes, inexplicably halting my work and connectivity.
This is an issue for many residents in the area south of Mullenix Ridge Elementary School. The current internet providers are not meeting the needs of our community, which affects our ability to work, study, and connect with the world.
The creation of a Local Utility District (LUD) can facilitate the installation of open access fiber by Kitsap Public Utility District (KPUD), offering us high-speed, dependable internet from a selection of multiple providers leading to more competition, better pricing, and customer service from local companies.
KPUD provides fiber optic internet to schools, government buildings, and business throughout the Kitsap Peninsula. The nearest access point is their service to Mullenix Ridge Elementary. The fiber optics they provide are "Open Access" so you would have a selection of providers to choose from, leading to better prices and support. If you are displeased with one you can switch to another with a phone call.
Fiber optic internet is also future proof and will be able to support the latest internet speeds as our needs grow for decades to come.
For the proposal to become a reality, we need at least 51% of homeowners in our area to support the creation of this LUD. This infrastructure would not only benefit work-from-home employees like myself but also families, students, and anyone who depends on a solid internet connection.
By signing this petition, you're making a statement in favor of high-speed internet and a viable, competitive alternative to the current monopolized services. Installation of fiber internet is an investment in our community’s future, enabling better remote work capabilities, higher property value, education opportunities, and connectivity.
Join me in pushing for this essential improvement. Sign the petition to support the creation of a Local Utility District for fiber installation by KPUD. Together, we can achieve faster, more reliable internet for residents south of Mullenix.
