Support Funding for Comprehensive Out of School Programs!
The Issue
Join us in urging City Council to ensure funding for comprehensive out-of-school time (OST) programs!
The City & County of Denver City Council proposed a $5.5M amendment to fund comprehensive out-of-school time (OST) programs for elementary and middle school students. Funding which is vital for supporting Denver's young people and their families and is deeply needed due to expiring post-COVID relief funds. The Mayor recently recommended a shift to this amendment, titled "Increasing our Investment into Youth Programs," which reduced the amount to $1.5M, shifting the scope of what would be funded to focus on a general assessment of youth programs.
While we understand the City's financial constraints and are pleased the amendment remains in consideration, the $1.5 million must be specifically allocated to Comprehensive OST programs.
These programs are not just "nice-to-haves" but essential services that help build family stability and contribute to Denver's vibrancy as a place to live and work.
We urge City Council to ensure that the language of the amendment is tightened so the funding directly supports Comprehensive Out-of-School Time Programs and ensures these programs can continue delivering the crucial services our communities rely on.

El Concejo Municipal de la Ciudad y el Condado de Denver ha propuesto una enmienda de $5.5 millones para financiar programas integrales de tiempo fuera de la escuela (OST) para estudiantes de primaria y secundaria. Esta financiación es vital para apoyar a los jóvenes de Denver y a sus familias, y se necesita urgentemente debido a la expiración de los fondos de ayuda post-COVID. Recientemente, el Alcalde recomendó un cambio en esta enmienda, titulada "Aumentando Nuestra Inversión en Programas Juveniles," que redujo la cantidad a $1.5 millones y cambió el enfoque hacia una evaluación general de los programas juveniles.
Si bien entendemos las limitaciones financieras de la Ciudad y nos complace que la enmienda siga en consideración, es fundamental que los $1.5 millones se asignen específicamente a los programas integrales de OST.
Estos programas no son simplemente un "agradable extra," sino servicios esenciales que ayudan a construir estabilidad familiar y contribuyen a la vitalidad de Denver como un lugar para vivir y trabajar.
Instamos al Concejo Municipal a asegurar que el lenguaje de la enmienda se ajuste para que los fondos respalden directamente los programas integrales de tiempo fuera de la escuela (OST) y permitan que estos programas continúen brindando los servicios cruciales en los que nuestras comunidades confían.
