Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your incredible support over our 72-year history of serving West Sacramento families. It is because of our strong community that JMPNS has been able to provide high-quality, cooperative childcare for over seven decades.

We are writing to share the disappointing results of our recent petition to the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) Board of Trustees. We petitioned the board to grant JMPNS free rent on our renewed lease agreement. Amidst a statewide crisis of low enrollment plaguing preschools, our cooperative program simply cannot survive with such high operational costs.

While we believe we qualified for free rent under the district’s published "Facility Use Fee Schedule," our request was officially denied. The school board stated that after consulting legal council, it was determined that the published schedule only applies to short-term or one-time rentals, rather than long-term tenants like us. Consequently, we were forced to sign a new lease at our current rate of over $20,000 a year.

Our future is not secure, but we refuse to give up. We will continue to fight to survive and to bring our children the cooperative community care they deserve.

How you can help right now:
Share relocation leads: If you or our community partners know of any potential new locations for our preschool, please reach out immediately.
Spread the word: Share our story with alumni, neighbors, and local businesses to help us find a sustainable path forward.

Thank you for standing with us, both now and in the future,

Erin Hinton, Director
