THANK YOU to everyone who has signed and shared so far!! As of this writing we have 154 signatures, and 55 shares which is AMAZING. Please continue to share to get this out there (we have over 1,500 views, so if you're just looking and not signing, get on it!!)

This item has been added to the June 5th Wissahickon School Board agenda meeting so here's what we need next:

  1. WRITE to the School Board to tell voice your support. This will have opposition and we need to be strong and unflappable!
  2. ATTEND the meeting, either in person or via Zoom (see meeting info below). Public comments are open during the first comment period. PLEASE SPEAK UP, even if it's only a few words. It's especially powerful to have LGBTQIA+ students speak during this time if you know any that are willing, and parents and allies are also important.
  3. SHARE the petition and SIGN if you have't already.
  4. TALK to your neighbors about why promoting love and acceptance in our community is important for everyone, not just those directly affected.

Here is an email I sent to the board this morning. The emails of the current Wissahickon School District Board members are below to send your own!

"Wissahickon School Board Members,
I am over the moon pleased to hear that the raising of a district Pride Flag has been added to the agenda for next week’s board meeting ~ thank you so much.

After seeing a flyer for the raising of a Pride Flag at UD it occurred to me that WISS didn't have one and they absolutely should! As a parent of a LGBTQIA+ child in WMS, I know first hand the support that the district gives this student population (which is not unsubstantial), but I also know there’s a lot more work to be done, and A LOT that goes on between students that the staff is unaware of. Our district has a chance to take a bold stand in support of this oft-marginalized community by flying a flag high for all to see! This is especially important at a time when other nearby districts are limiting and downright discriminating against students living freely and openly without fear.

After only a few days, a petition supporting this initiative (https://www.change.org/wissprideflag has 154 signatures and is gathering momentum! This endeavor will likely get opposition, which is, of course, incredibly sad at a time when we should be promoting unity amongst all students. I truly hope the board will elect to show WISS PRIDE extends to all its students by loudly and visibly showing love and acceptance reigns throughout the district!

I appreciate your time and consideration to this matter, and am happy to volunteer in any way I can to make this happen."
