Support for Tullahoma’s Johnson Lane Recreation Area Bathrooms and Parking Improvements

The Issue

Tullahoma’s soccer community has been without clean and convenient family restrooms since the Johnson Lane Recreation Area fields were developed by the City of Tullahoma. These soccer fields see approximately 1,000 people on game day weekends during the Fall and Spring soccer seasons. Friendly and travel soccer games from the entire state of TN are frequently played at this complex. Field usage remains high throughout the week serving as the primary practice facility for area teams.  The local 501c3 organization, Tullahoma Soccer Association, pays monthly to provide multiple porta-potties, but not all families are comfortable with this solution. Another primary need for a permanent shelter is to have a safe place to “shelter in place” in the case of lightning in the area. Parking at the complex is also less than optimal for the level of traffic seen during game days.  The City of Tullahoma recently received American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to complete the needed Bathroom and Parking upgrades moving the city’s facility one step closer to completion of the long term vision for this recreation area. In recent weeks the Board of Mayor and Alderman voted to halt the ARPA efforts to reconsider the funded initiatives. The intent of this petition is to support moving forward with the Johnson Lane improvements that were originally planned and approved. For questions or comments, reach out to Jonathan Carroll at president@tullahomasoccer.org.  Thank you for considering support to our local efforts to make Tullahoma better for all involved!
