By signing this petition, I advocate for the MAXIMUM PENALTY for the man who shot and killed two dogs in Highlandville, MO on March 26, 2023. 

Neighbors were caring for these stray dogs while they were on the waitlist for Rescue One. During the three weeks that neighbors were providing food for these three dogs, one of the neighbors made a threat to kill them, and on March 26th, while the dogs were eating, he came by and shot them. 

The man was arrested by Christian County Sheriff's Office, however, lately, crimes against animals are not getting the punishment they deserve. For example, just one week prior, Two men in Nevada, MO killed a horse and were not even charged for that crime. They only received probation for unlawful use of a weapon.

Update 03/30:

Update- Charges have NOT been filed yet. We must respectfully ask Christan County Prosecutor Kristen Tuohy to take this case seriously, and not let it get released without punishment as so many other crimes against animals have been lately. 

The wife of the shooter made a post defending the actions, using the liaison name from her business account. She stated that the dogs were on her property and posed a threat to her safety, if they can prove this to be accurate, then the case would be dismissed. So we need ANYONE with information to make that available to the prosecutor, including the person who retrieved the bodies of the dogs, could you please confirm if the dog's bodies were retrieved from this location or not?

The dogs was confirmed in an easement area, not on Mr.Kings property. He drove to the site where he shot them. 

Update 03/31: The best chance of getting the case pursued is to keep following up with the Prosecution Attorney and pushing her to pursue it, knowing that the sherif has the incriminating information (location of incident, gunshells, social media post, etc). Please call, email and encourage her to prosecute him. Share the petition, because I'm emailing it to her every morning with updates on the signatures. I believe with the attention this case is getting we can serve justice for these dogs and serve a precedent for other crimes against animals that our community will stand for this.

You can say something like this: "Hello Ms. Tuohy, I am calling to voice my concerns about the case involving Mr.Walter Lee King shooting and killing dogs. This incident is putting our community in distress knowing that there is someone unstable still walking the streets. Please prosecute him to the full extent of the law. As you can see in this petition, I am not alone in this, over 300+ community members are also advocating for the maximum penalty. Thank you for your attention to this case."

PETA has been made aware of this case and stated this is the best approach for now, but will involved everyone's effort, so please call and email persistently and let's serve justice for these dogs.
