With a heavy heart I am sharing this cruel and horrific update:
“Today, Adan’s life was decided about in seven minutes,” said Kim Boche, an attorney with The Advocates for Human Rights, in a statement. “Even with an attorney and legislators watching, the system moved to remove him without meaningful review. Adan's violent apprehension and perfunctory process is representative of a carceral immigration system that prioritizes detention and deportation over family unity and safety.”
MPR news was in the courtroom along with Adan's lawyers, friends, and advocates to learn of his fate. I wish there was more we could have done to keep him here and reunite him with his family. Thank you all for signing on and for sharing and for showing up and for speaking up. The next step will be to wrap our arms around his family still here in Northfield and to do whatever we can to prevent more illegal abductions like this from happening to our community. You can give to Neighbors Supporting Neighbors here and the GoFundMe for his family can be found here.
With love and fortitude to continue the work of loving our neighbors,
~Kristi
