Last week marked 11 months that Dan has been held without local charges or criminal history in maximum security solitary confinement. This extreme arbitrary detention on behalf of a foreign government is taking its toll physically, emotionally and financially. This situation is completely unacceptable in modern Australia and I am asking our supporters to send us photos of themselves holding signs in support of Dan to post on social media.
It has been almost a year since the NSW government stopped UN delegates from inspecting prison conditions in Australia.
In 2015, the United Nations expanded the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners and adopted what is known as the Nelson Mandela rules. Both the US and Australia are signatories to these standards and yet the conditions under which Dan is being held are in breach of these rules.
