Support Cranbrook’s Locally Owned Digital Billboards
Petition to the Mayor and Council of the City of Cranbrook

I’ve previously requested bylaw updates and a permit to operate 2+ years ago, to which the decision at the time by City Council was to not make changes and in the meantime not enforce against me while they review changes needed.

I have recently made a new request of Mayor and Council to grant me a permit to operate, to allow me to operate as I have been since mid 2024, vs make sign bylaw changes. Next meeting is 23 Nov.

Now with a client base and in supporting non profit on the screens, I am being forced to shut down. No problem and understood.

I am seeking support for a permit to operate despite not fitting within the current sign bylaws. I am not asking for more of these signs to be set up in town, just the two I have created and placed, one at my location on Victoria Ave, and one at Cobs Bread

As follows:

We, the undersigned residents, business owners and supporters of Cranbrook’s local business community, respectfully ask City Council to consider a reasonable solution that would allow Trailmaker Media to continue operating its two existing mobile digital billboard trailers.

These billboards have provided an accessible advertising opportunity for local businesses, community events and nonprofit organizations.

Over the years, Trailmaker Media has supported more than 120 local businesses and organizations, including providing complimentary advertising for community groups and charitable initiatives.

We recognize the City’s responsibility to regulate signage and maintain public safety. We are not asking Council to disregard its bylaws.

Instead, we ask Council to explore a lawful, limited authorization for the two existing trailers, subject to reasonable conditions concerning placement, brightness and safety.

We respectfully encourage Cranbrook City Council to work toward a practical solution that supports local businesses and community organizations while respecting municipal regulations.

This petition expresses community support for Council’s consideration of the proposal. It does not request suspension of current enforcement requirements.

Thank you!

Scott Tracey, Trailmaker Media Cranbrook
