This message just isn't just for our FAM! #freedmencitizenshipnow
We'd like to hear from you if your parents, grandparents, and ancestors are Choctaw Freedmen and lived in Admore, Broken Bow,Chilli Flat, Durant, Harris, Hayworth, Hugo, Idabel, Janis, Tom, OK (aka I.T.),etc.
The Choctaw Nation's Communication Dept.'s Committees are now (Ph# 580-924-8280) in the gathering stage of collecting your stories/comments about your Choctaw Freedmen ancestors.
Our parents/grandparents passed on these stories to us. So, let's represent our ancestors proudly & repectfully as we add our voices and speak as the descendants of these Choctaw Freedmen who were granted citizenshp in 1885 in the Choctaw Nation.
The Choctaw Nation officially adopted the former slaves of that nation and their descendants in 1885. This action was done in compliance with the Treaty of Fort Smith in 1866 and gave the former slaves AND THEIR descendants full rights, the same as Choctaw “citizens by blood.”
However, in 1983 some decades later, their citizenship was rescinded in the Choctaw Nation's Constitution. #freedmencitizenshipnow
Let's work together to "reclaim" our citizenship w.the Choctaw Nation....Thanks to all our FAM & Supporters!!
