BREAKING: ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT FILED AGAINST DONALD J. TRUMP | Lights On with Jessica Denson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5CbPODGAeo
Michigan Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar announced Monday, 4/28 he had filed articles of impeachment against President Trump.
“I have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump,” Thanedar said in his announcement online. “When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not ‘fighting for America.’ He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy.”
Thanedar said he was introducing seven articles of impeachment against Trump as follows:
They are as follows:
1) Obstruction of Justice and abuse of executive power for denying due process, violating immigration law, and defying court orders.
2) Usurpation of Congress’s appropriations power by impounding federal funds.
3) Abuse of trade authority and international aggression for imposing tariffs without statutory authorization and threatening military action against sovereign nations.
4) First-Amendment violations through retaliatory actions against critics, the media, and attorneys.
5) Creation of an unlawful office by establishing “DOGE.”
6) Bribery and corruption for dismissing criminal cases, soliciting foreign emoluments, and extracting extortionate settlements for personal or political gain.
7) Tyrannical overreach in seeking to consolidate unchecked power, erode civil liberties, and ignore constitutional limits on presidential authority.
Republican support (4 Republican votes) would be needed to win a vote on the articles. The Republican Party retains control of the House of Representatives, continuing its majority from the previous term. Republicans currently hold 218 seats while the Democrats have 215. The House votes on whether to impeach a president, while the Senate votes on whether to convict a president. In the Senate, where the GOP also has a majority, a two-thirds majority is needed to win a conviction (I believe this would be every Democrat's vote plus 19 Republican votes).
