SUPPORT AN EQUITABLE WAGE FOR DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS' OFFICE PERSONNEL

SUPPORT AN EQUITABLE WAGE FOR DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS' OFFICE PERSONNEL
The Issue
Recently DPS came to an agreement with their paraprofessional unit to increase their starting minimum wage from $15.87/hr to $20.00/hour. We are very supportive of this increase and are pleased that the new wage now refects the value that these employees provide our students and our district.
We are now asking that we be treated equally.
Office support personnel have a lot of responsibility. In our schools, we are the face of the school! We are the first people to greet our community in the morning and to support our families, students, and guests as they arrive and throughout the day. We are required to be proficient in multiple DPS systems including payroll, purchasing, the guest teacher application, and Infinite Campus in which we enroll and schedule students and maintain student records. Our daily routine always includes responding to the needs of teachers, parents, our administrators, and students, while still meeting the strict District deadlines around their clerical needs. We must also be able to communicate effectively with all of our school and department’s various groups (students, parents, employees), in person and in writing, to support and facilitate the education of our students.
The district has offered us a "road to $20" in which it would take us three years to get to a minimum wage of $20/hr. Please support us in demanding a new pay scale that refects our value and contribution to the district.
