The dust is settling on the events at Co-op’s AGM on Saturday, and I’m reflecting on the splash we made:

  • An overwhelming 90% of members voted to end Co-op’s cruel use of fast-growing Frankenchickens.
  • Chris Packham attempted to speak for chickens, but was refused entry into the meeting.
  • A group of protestors entered the AGM and, as Co-op bosses were preparing to make their excuses, disrupted the event with a speech and chanting before being removed by security.

Despite the powerful vote in favour of better lives for animals, Co-op bosses still refused to do the right thing. But the pressure on them has never been greater. Over the weekend our message has been reported by major news outlets, with headlines such as “Co-op prioritises corporate greed over animal welfare, says Chris Packham”.

Not a good look, if you’re a Co-op boss.

Watch the drama you helped create:

Without animal lovers like you, Saturday’s vote on ending Frankenchickens never would have happened. So I wanted to give you the first look at our brand new video.

Watch the drama as it unfolded - and please don’t forget to like and share the video to boost the pressure on Co-op bosses:

This is not over.

We’re not stopping our fight to win better lives for the chickens raised by Co-op. This weekend was another step forward for our cause. We have proven that a vast majority want an end to Co-op’s Frankenchicken cruelty.

Now, all that stands between us and a better world for animals are a few Co-op execs and their tired old excuses.

Co-op bosses, take note 👀

For the animals,

Katie Ferneyhough, Head of Programs at The Humane League UK
