Hi, Sean here from The Humane League UK.
My heart did a flip when I heard the news.
Our appeal against the High Court, which in May threw out our case arguing that fast-growing Frankenchickens are illegal under current welfare laws, has been granted.
That means we have another chance to fight for the one billion chickens who are bred with suffering coded into their DNA each year in the UK.
Another chance to start a national conversation about the cruel use of fast-growing chickens who are trapped in painfully oversized bodies.
Another chance to force the Government to end one of the greatest animal welfare crises of our time.
It gives me goosebumps thinking about what we could achieve here.
But I won’t sugarcoat it. This is far from over yet. Now we need to mobilise everything we’ve got as we gear up for the next court hearing.
Thankfully, we’re not alone in this David vs. Goliath battle.
We’re represented by the UK’s first animal law firm, Advocates for Animals, and supported by the RSPCA. And, crucially, you’re with us. Because it’s supporters like you who have powered us to this point. With donations. With messages of support. Even by showing up outside the court at our last hearing.
So take a moment now to imagine a world where animals aren’t bred to suffer. Where laws protect animals rather than enable their exploitation.
That’s where we’re heading, sooner or later. And you and I? We’re leading the way.
I can’t wait to keep you updated with this case.
Yours,
Sean Gifford, Managing Director of The Humane League UK
