What do you think of when you see the Co-op logo?
Co-op is supposed to be an ‘ethical’, 'responsible' supermarket that does the right thing. Co-op promises the ‘highest standards’ of animal welfare, and many people put their trust in those promises.
But promises aren’t enough for us. We set out to uncover the truth.
In an exclusive story with The Independent, we present to you a new, shocking undercover investigation conducted by Open Cages.
CO-OP CHICKENS DEFORMED, DYING AND COLLAPSING IN AGONY
On three intensive chicken farms in Lincolnshire, all supplying Co-op (yes, right here in the UK), we discovered a waking nightmare…
- Deformed, severely injured chickens, left to suffer in pain
- Overcrowded, filthy conditions with decomposing bodies left to rot
- Workers tossing hundreds of dead bodies into maggot infested bins as they laugh to themselves
These are Co-op's secret Frankenchicken farms. Bred to grow 4x faster than natural, millions of these animals die from organ failure, heart attacks, and deformities.
Let's be frank. We can't trust these companies to do the right thing. They can't even tell the truth.
It's up to animal defenders like us to DEMAND better for them.
Will you take action with us now?

We CAN change the fate of these animals.
Hundreds of companies across the world have committed to stop selling Frankenchickens.
Co-op is uniquely placed to make this change. They have already agreed to give these birds more space to live in by 2024. Co-op’s own members already voted for Co-op to stop selling Frankenchickens. But the board refused.
Extra space means little when the birds are growing so fast they can barely walk. Please demand that Co-op stops selling Frankenchickens too.
Thank you for being a friend to the animals,
