Hi, Sean here from The Humane League UK.

I just learnt the outcome of our legal battle over the Government’s allowance of the use of Frankenchickens in the UK. The High Court has ruled that the Government has not behaved unlawfully.

It’s a case that we’ve been fighting for years with everything we have. So the news hurts to hear.

When I heard the verdict, my thoughts immediately turned to those we’ve been fighting for: each and every fast-growing chicken in the UK who deserves better. The painful truth is that this ruling leaves them to continue suffering in a cruel and broken system.

But I have hope. You give me hope. You’re here because you recognise the injustice of factory farming.

And your response is compassion.

That is beautiful and powerful. And I know that, together, we will succeed in creating a world where animals are free from abuse.

We are now looking at our options for continuing the legal battle. But whether or not we can pursue this further through the courts, we will not give up fighting for the one billion Frankenchickens who are raised to suffer in the UK each year.

We’ve come so far. Our court case was covered by the BBC, ITV, The Guardian, The Mirror, The Independent, and countless others. People are now waking up to the horror of intensive chicken farming in their millions.

And just last weekend, 96% of members voted for Co-op to adopt the Better Chicken Commitment and end their use of Frankenchickens. The chorus of voices opposing this cruelty is growing stronger every day.

This isn’t over. It’s just beginning.

With love,

Sean Gifford, Managing Director of The Humane League UK, on behalf of Chris Packham

P.S. I just recorded this video message about my reaction to the verdict and to share my thanks for your support.
