Hi, Aaron here, Co-op member and staff member at The Humane League UK.
Something really inspiring just happened. 96% of Co-op members voted in favour of our team’s motion to adopt the Better Chicken Commitment and improve the lives of millions of Co-op chickens.
That’s tens of thousands of people, all saying the same thing: chickens deserve better. It was truly an incredible moment to hear those results being announced.
But then my heart sank.
You’d think Co-op bosses would have got the message. But do you know what their response was? While they agreed to give their chickens more space as a result of the vote, they refused to end their cruel use of fast-growing Frankenchickens.
I was gobsmacked.
Co-op bosses are ignoring the will of the people and the basic ethical and democratic principles that Co-op is supposed to hold dear.
So this isn’t over. And I need you.
We’ve come so far. And I know that you and I won't let Co-op bosses back out of this. An estimated 50 million chickens would have better lives each year if they stop using Frankenchickens.
Pressure is building. An article highlighting the betrayal by bosses has already been published in The Guardian.
Will you join me and take action now to tell Co-op bosses to respect the vote?
