Dear animal lovers,

We’re writing to you with two updates, a special message direct from Chris Packham, and a call to action from the RSPCA.

Message from Chris Packham:

Fellow campaigners,

I’m writing with an update for you on the supermarkets campaign. As you know, we’ve decided to focus our efforts on Morrisons and push the chain to make a move on adopting the Better Chicken Commitment. They are in a strong position to do the right thing.

Last week I wrote to Morrisons CEO David Potts and asked him to let me come to one of their standard chicken farms - unannounced, with a small film crew to document the conditions Morrisons chickens are reared in. If they have nothing to hide, then it shouldn’t be a problem. Mr Potts hasn’t responded to me, but the story was covered in the Independent.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support - it’s been excellent seeing all your comments about making calls, writing letters, and to see all your posts on Morrisons social media.

Best wishes,
Chris Packham

Call to Action from RSPCA:

The Co-op’s Annual General Meeting for shareholders is coming up soon, which makes now a once-a-year opportunity to send in questions for discussion at the event. The cut-off date for questions is this Monday the 10th at 12 noon. Will you email agm@coop.co.uk and ask Co-op a question about their chicken welfare? It’s best to write it in your own words. You can ask if they will be signing up to the Better Chicken Commitment to address the suffering of millions of chickens in their supply chain.

Once you’ve sent your email please let us know in the comments section below what you asked. We’ll keep you updated on similar opportunities for the other supermarket’s AGMs soon.

For more information about the AGM check the Co-op AGM webpage.

Thank you
