In February, Morrisons announced that it is launching a new, limited range of chicken meat from 2022 which meets the criteria of the Better Chicken Commitment, but they are still refusing to sign up to this critical commitment, and improve standards for all the chicken in their supply chain.
This move is incredibly misleading. The Better Chicken Commitment is not a range to pick and choose from - it is a commitment to improve the lives of chickens who are currently facing the worst abuses, across an entire supply chain.
Send these tweets to the supermarkets to tell them that all chickens deserve a life free from suffering.
Chickens whose legs often give way as they can no longer support the heavy weight of their bodies, having been bred to grow as large as possible, as quickly as possible.
Chickens who can barely move or perform their natural behaviours as they are often packed so tightly together with each other in giant sheds.
Committing to end this abuse for only some of the chickens in a companies supply chain is simply not good enough!
