Keep MMSD schools closed during COVID-19 pandemic

Keep MMSD schools closed during COVID-19 pandemic
The Issue
MMSD Plans for a Phased Reopening
MMSD will begin a phased return to in-person instruction, starting with Kindergarten students, March 9th. https://www.madison.k12.wi.us/
---
The Madison Metropolitan School District is planning to return to in-person instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the numbers and community spread as high as they currently are, and with the new more contagious variants happening, I cannot believe this would be an option. I am for students returning to the classroom but only once vaccines have been widely distributed and COVID cases are under control. As a community, we need to keep our children and teachers safe. To send students back now knowing that cases will occur is irresponsible and dangerous. Students have the potential to get sick, have long term medical complications, and further spread the COVID-19 virus to those that they live with.
In November of 2020, and again in December, we were warned to not sit down for a holiday meal with anyone outside of our home as the potential for the spread was, and is, too severe. Now, MMSD is considering putting all families together in a single building. This is dangerous and I do not support this decision.
