Transparency & Accountability For Re-Opening SPF Schools

Transparency & Accountability For Re-Opening SPF Schools
The Issue
It’s clear that there (still) isn't any valid information about the HVAC issue(s) Dr. Mast is using as the reason to keep our schools closed. And without any context around the 11/20 re-opening date, that date is unrealistic. We, the majority of the SPF parent community, want our children back in school as soon as possible and want transparency around what Dr. Mast is doing to re-open our schools. We will hold Dr. Mast and you, our SPF Board of Education, accountable for getting us there!
We expect to:
1. See the bid/contract for EI Associates for their HVAC assessment. After all, it did cost us $18,800.
2. See all HVAC and air quality reports and recommendations for our schools.
3. See a concise and detailed timeline for any fixes/remediations for each school that will get us to re-opening.
4. Receive weekly updates from Dr. Mast reporting specifically what has been done and discovered, and if there are any delays or new issues in our schools.
All of these done with full transparency toward re-opening our schools following Governor Murphy's requirements and safety standards.
A meaningful education needs to consist of in-person instruction for students of all ages, especially for those with special education needs (IEPs, 504s) and our youngest learners. Virtual instruction has already placed a significant mental, emotional, and financial strain on many households and that will continue to grow come September with our all-remote start.
You, our SPF Board of Education, serve parents and taxpayers and therefore, the will of the overwhelming majority of the SPF school community to re-open our schools for in-person instruction must be fulfilled. Our children cannot learn through a computer!
