Thousands of fishes are slowly dying in Lakemont Park (Altoona, PA) due to the draining of the lake there. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has reportedly deemed composting the fishes--letting them die and rot--to be the best ‘solution’! TAKE ACTION NOW using our sample message below!
Community members have rallied to rescue the animals but are being thwarted by Blair County, which owns the lake but refuses to give them permission to rescue them.
Please contact the county commissioners’ office and demand they immediately grant rescuers permission to rescue the animals: (814) 693-3030.

Sample comment:
It is outrageous that fishes and other aquatic animals are being left to suffocate due to the draining of the lake at Lakemont Park.
Science has shown that fishes can suffer fear and pain. They are sentient beings who deserve respect, consideration and humane treatment. Composting live fishes is egregiously inhumane and irresponsible!
Volunteers have offered to rescue and responsibly rehome animals there. Please grant them immediate access to the lake now while there is still time to save some of the surviving animals, and ensure that any remaining animals are humanely accommodated.
