A New Jersey newspaper has just published a piece about a local Sunsations shop's renovations, claiming the store "shines"--but probably isn't aware about the cruel, outdated hermit crab trade the store is supporting. TODAY: Leave a police comment on the paper's Facebook post letting it know about this suffering behind Sunsations' doors (use our sample below)!

Hermit crabs are complex animals who can live for over 30 years in their natural habitat, the tropical seashore. These social beings thrive in large colonies and often sleep piled up together.

But every single land hermit crab sold in souvenir shops like Sunsations—hundreds of thousands every year—has been caught from the wild, as these animals do not breed readily in captivity. Once at the boardwalk, hermit crabs are sold to tourists in tiny, barren cages with some pebbles and a plastic palm tree. Deprived of everything natural to them, they are destined to die in mere months.

A recent Plight of the Hermies investigative video exposed broken limbs, filthy conditions, and even a dead hermit crab inside one Sunsations store.

Make sure New Jersey's SandPaper newspaper gets the full scoop on Sunsations cruelty: Leave a quick comment on its Facebook page TODAY! Use our sample below or your own polite message:

SAMPLE COMMENT: Sunsations might look sparkling new--but is hiding extreme cruelty to wild hermit crabs behind its doors. These wild animals can live for 30 years but are sold in tiny, barren cages by the thousands at Sunsations, destined to die in mere months. It's time for Sunsations to make a true upgrade by ending its sale of hermit crabs!
