Calling for Sunderland council to launch a review into the Sir Henry Havelock statue

Calling for Sunderland council to launch a review into the Sir Henry Havelock statue
The Issue
The Sir Henry Havelock statue represents a British General known for his role in brutally suppressing the Indian rebellion of 1857 which saw the massacre of 800,000 Indians. We should be questioning if we are proud to have Havelock representing the City of Sunderland through his commemoration in the form of a statue.
Neighbouring councils Durham and Newcastle have announced reviews into their historical monuments. We are asking Sunderland City Council to do the same.
We are calling on Sunderland City Council to launch a thorough historical review of the statue and the history its represents, with thoughts of who we want to represent Sunderland's more inclusive values.
