I, and many others are tired of the constant disregard for students that have encountered sexual assault or misconduct in the Sun Prairie Area School District, and we demand change. Some of Sun Prairie School District’s core values are as states: “Believe in supporting the social, emotional, and academic needs of every child to help them reach their full potential” and “Believe in teaching ethical behavior and modeling character”, this is easily contradicted by the actions of the district responding to these multiple run-ins of sexual misconduct. Imagine being in a school with someone who sexually assaulted you, especially if you’re in younger years. This can effect the focus of a student, making it harder for them to learn, be social, and thrive in the school. This can also lead to students having a negative outlook on school, as it is what they are dealing with on a daily basis. This could effect their attendance rate, grades, and even plans on going to college. Also, Sun Prairie does not educate students on sexual assault and awareness for the problem. We believe that Sun Prairie Schools should create a statement or speech to give an outlook on what’s to come for this problem. help sign this petition to make school a heather, safer, and secure place for students.
