All,

We’re making great progress (see update below) and the fight continues!

Council Meeting This Wednesday 12/15 (Tomorrow) At 3:40 PM

Tomorrow (Wednesday 12/15) the Summit County Council will meet with Dakota Pacific’s representatives to discuss the project.  This is a “work session” requested by Dakota Pacific to discuss the input received from the community at the December 1st public hearing. The Council will NOT BE VOTING on the project, and there will be NO PUBLIC COMMENT. But to signal that WE ARE STILL VERY MUCH PAYING ATTENTION, we are encouraging you to attend - either in person or by Zoom - for this one hour discussion.  Here are the details for the meeting:

Date: Wednesday December 15, from 3:40 PM - 4:40 PM

Location: Richins Building  1885 W. Ute Blvd., Park City, UT 84098

By Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/772302472

By Phone: Dial 1-301-715-8592, Webinar ID: 772 302 472

We’re not looking for the same massive turnout that we had at the December 1st hearing (we’ll save that for when / if the Council votes), but a sizable crowd wearing RED on Wednesday will play in our favor.  If you can’t make it in person, it’s easy to just log in on Zoom (or dial in by phone).

Update On Our Collective Efforts

Last week was a big week for Friends of Summit County and our efforts to stop the Dakota Pacific project.  There have been several developments of consequence:

Vote Delayed - Despite originally planning to vote on the project on November 17th and then potentially on December 15th (as  Councilmember Doug Clyde indicated on KPCW), we have succeeded in getting the Council to delay the vote until the new year.  This will give our team and others in the community time to further build our case in opposition to this project, based upon a robust legal strategy and ongoing research.  We continue to seek a dialogue with the County and a forum in which to publicly present our findings, and are optimistic they will agree.

Changes to the County Team - While we can't disclose specifics due to our ongoing conversations with County officials, our efforts have resulted in the County making changes to its team for the project. More details will be released, pending the outcome of our negotiations.

Public Records Request - We have filed extensive public records (GRAMA) requests through our attorney with the County, allowing us to examine communications between County council, staff, the developer and others.  After initially receiving a response from the County that they would not be able to produce our request in a timely manner, with the assistance of our counsel, the County is now looking into expediting their response. A mountain of documents should be forthcoming in the days ahead.

Project Analysis - We are continuing with a deep-dive analysis into key aspects of the project, to further enhance our position to the council that this is the wrong project.

Thanks to everyone for your support, and see you in person or online for the council meeting this Wednesday 12/15 at 3:40 PM.
