Overgrown fire lanes and dead oak trees in the Flanders pine barrens make it difficult and hazardous for volunteer firefighters to enter the woods and put out wildfires. The situation is a disaster waiting to happen. The willful neglect by the state and county on public preserved lands puts firefighters’ and residents’ lives at risk, and jeopardizes hundreds of homes.
